Government & Politics
The A Level Sociology course provides students with a thorough understanding of comparative Government and Politics. In the first year students cover essential topics such as The nature and sources of British Politics, democracy as well as The constitutional framework of US government.
Students also explore the three traditional ideologies of Liberalism, Conservatism and Socialism, with the optional Feminism. The course is Lively, relevant and controversial. There’s no denying that it’s one of the most interesting and engaging qualifications you can choose. Covering news and current affairs from the UK and US, it helps you understand how the UK country is run and develops research, written communication and debate skills. It also helps grow your confidence. Assessment is based on three written exams at the end of the course, each testing knowledge, understanding, and critical evaluation through a mix of short-answer, extended writing, and essay questions. The A Level is ideal if you’re considering studying politics, sociology, ethics, advertising or journalism at university and is highly regarded by employers in industries including politics, international organisations, the media, government and the civil service.
